Garda Station in East Limerick

KRB 10-12-2018 Senator Maria Byrne Garda Station Castleconnell 01.jpg Following on from my recent calls for a permanent to serve the Suburbs of Monaleen, Castletroy, Annacotty, Lisnagry and Castlconnell, I welcome the appointment of Sargent Mairead Reidy who will be based in Castleconnell Garda Station. This appointment will be effective as of the 7thof January and Sargent Reidy will be supported by the 4 existing Community Gardai. While I welcome this appointment, I remain concerned that there is no full-time garda station in the area. As I have previously stated, the region is looked after by the garda station in Henry Street, which is right in the city centre, but there is a population of more than 20,000 outside that part of the city that has a direct need for full time policing.

After highlighting the need for a permanent Garda Station in the area at both Ministerial level and directly with local Senior Gardai, I am pleased to see the appointment of a permanent Sargent which is the first step towards addressing the criminality and anti-social behaviour that currently exists. It is a shame to see a small minority running riot and adversely effecting the quality of life of residents and businesses in the area.

I arranged a successful meeting for the community gardai with residents in Castleconnell on the 18thof December and have now requested the community Gardai arrange a meeting with residents and business owners in the Annacotty area. I am awaiting details of the proposed meeting from the Community Policing Sargent and will post details when confirmed.
